At on the CityArts Toronto Rock Camp on Friday, August 13th, 2010, seven bands took the stage in what was our final concert of the Summer 2010 edition of the Toronto Rock Camp.

Seals And Wales, The Wonderful World of (Book for Young Explorers) (SAWTWWOBFYE)

Just by simply reading their name, SAWTWWOBFYE, means business. With the power they bring in both performances of ‘Stay Away’ by Nirvana and ‘Cut Your Hair’ by Pavement its safe to say SAWTWWOBFYE is not only a force to be reckoned with, but they also guarantee you a smile.

Vengeance

Vengeance was one of the bands to write their own original songs. The kicked off their set with “Vengeance”. They also performed “Cowboys from Hell” by -, which had everyone head banging along to the beat. This band had great stage performance while performing their song choices which really involved their song choices, metal may have not been the audience’s favourite music but they couldn’t help but join in.

James Town Commodities

James Town Commodities had great energy on stage during their performance of “Let It Be” by the Beatles and “Starlight” by Muse. They sent energetic vibes to the audience which had everyone singing along to a legendary favourite.

Dimension

The six youngest members of week six teamed up to ‘woo’ the crowd with two of the greatest hits in rock history- ‘Highway to Hell’ by AC/DC and ‘Smoke on the Water’ by Deep Purple. It just goes to show that age is but a number.

Homicidal Sparkle Kitten

The Homicidal Sparkle Kitten’s gave the show its kick with their songs Sweet Dream by Beyonce and Superstition by Stevie Wonder. They went against the status quo and showed how diverse Rock Camp could really be- and did a wonderful job doing so. Way to go Homicidal Sparkle Kitten. The only thing these kittens killed us with was rock!

Baby Pharm Animals

Baby Pharm Animals were one of the bands to write their own original song which they titled “Liar”. Their rendition of “Jailhouse Rock” originally by Elvis Presley had the crowd rocking old school!

Serious Suggestion

Serious Suggestion shared their enthusiasm and liveliness with the audience when they performed their two song choices “More than a Feeling” by Boston and “Born to be Wild”. They brought a ton of energy to the stage with their great stage presence and connection.

This was the last concert of the Summer 2010 Edition of the CityArts Toronto Rock Camp. In September we kick off a whole year of events, concerts, workshops and the CityArts Winter Performance and Recording Rock Program! So for now, so long from our talented young rockers. See you in September!

The Week 5 concert of the Summer 2010 edition of the CityArts Toronto Rock Camp took place on Friday, July 30th, 2010. Five bands hit the stage. Week 5 was a short 4 day week due to the Simcoe Day holiday on Monday. Despite the tightened schedule, and the resulting pressure to get everything ready for Friday's performance, the bands were all great!

Manana Bandwich

Manana Bandwich was the energetic bunch who took the stage with their set of Vertigo by U2 and Today by the Smashing Pumpkins. The “Bandwich” kept the crowd moving and the show rockin’ and rollin’. Despite their name,

Amuse featuring Too Shy Guy

Amuse featuring Too Shy Guy was not hesitant to let their inner rockstars out. With not one but two Muse songs, “Plug in Baby” and “Hysteria”.

Metasys

With the only original of the night, Metasys gave an amazing performance. Along with their original instrumental, the group took the crowd back with the classic “All the Young Dudes” by Mott the Hoople.

FailBoat

FailBoat Don’t let the name fool you, this band in no way failed. Launching into “Fake It” by Seether, they instantly pleased the audience. Then, closing their set with the crowd favourite, “This Could Be Anywhere In The World” by Alexisonfire. A fantastic demonstration of what the volunteers can do.

The Joe McGrade Fanclub

The Joe McGrade Fanclub was the fabulous four-some took the crowd back to not one, not two but three eras with The Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”, – “Southern Man” by Neil Young, and “Welcome to the Machine” by Pink Floyd. What a fabulous end to the night. Who is Joe McGrade you ask? None other than one of our beloved CityArts Toronto Rock Camp band leaders and instructors who has been with us since 2008.

On Friday July 30th, 2010, CityArts Toronto Rock Camp hosted their fourth concert of the summer. This concert introduced four superb and energetic bands called Carmen and the Laser Cats, Sediquidant, Thunder Mifflin, Nuddha, Bassers and Drummists, and Beds Out of Chairs. The concert was exciting and lively as each band and each member brought their musical talent to the stage sharing their enthusiasm with the audience.

Carmen and the Laser Cats

Carmen and the Laser Cats were an enthusiastic and lively band. They performed an original written by one of their very own band members, Carmen, called “Just a Girl”. During their performance of “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence, they had an amazing band connection on stage and loads of energy that they shared with the audience. A band member was even playing a cello during their performance; it was a great addition to the concert.

Sediquidant

Sediquidant's performance of “Learn to Fly” by the Foo Fighters was high-spirited which used their musical talent to engage with their audience. They ultimately created anticipation for their next song performance of “Steady as She Goes” by the Raconteurs.

Thunder Mifflin

Thunder Mifflin was one of the bands to create their own original song, “Ode to Anvil”, over the course of five days. Using their song cover of “Bad Reputation” by Joe Jet, they helped host a great concert with their awesome performance and exciting vibes. This band brought a ton of energy to the stage.

Nuddha

Nuddha had an impressive stage presence with their fantastic performance of “Satisfaction”. They also brought the stage to life when they played Michael Jackson’s pop song, “Beat It”, giving the concert a different edge and musical genre to enjoy.

Bassers and Drummists

Bassers and Drummist's performance was enjoyable and exciting because of their energy and eagerness to be on stage. This band performed “Starseed” by Our Lady Peace and “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World with great enthusiasm and excitement.

Beds Out of Chairs

Beds Out of Chairs had a good band connection that they used to connect with their audience on stage. Their song choices consisted of classic rock that they added a twist to by using a cowbell during their performance. With their great stage presence and connection, this band was enjoyable and exciting to watch.
